2.3 Leading Ambiverts

Leading Ambiverts at PRETECT

Not everyone at PRETECT will fit neatly into the “introvert” or “extrovert” category. Many team members fall somewhere in between — these are ambiverts. Ambiverts display a balance of both traits: they can be outgoing and collaborative like extroverts, but they also need quiet time to recharge and reflect like introverts.

At PRETECT, ambiverts often perform well in dynamic roles that require both teamwork and independent work — such as site coordination, training facilitation, or administrative support. Their flexibility allows them to adapt to different situations and people, making them valuable bridge-builders within teams.

When leading ambiverts, pay close attention to timing and energy levels. After long meetings, client visits, or group discussions, they may need downtime to recharge. Schedule deeper or more complex discussions before large social interactions, when their focus and engagement are strongest.

Consider breaking lengthy or intense conversations into smaller, more manageable discussions—or “micro conversations.” This approach helps maintain engagement and prevents fatigue.

Finally, remember that ambiverts can sometimes appear more extroverted than they truly are. As a PRETECT leader, take time to understand each individual’s balance of traits and avoid assumptions. Recognizing and honoring this balance helps ambiverts thrive, supporting better collaboration, communication, and overall team performance.
