What Motivates People?
At PRETECT, understanding what drives each team member is key to effective leadership. Motivation isn’t just about the high-energy, “ra-ra” style events that pump people up for a moment. While those events create excitement, their impact is short-lived, and behaviors often fade once the emotions settle.
True motivation is deeper—it’s what consistently drives people to act, regardless of their mood or external circumstances. To lead effectively and understand your team, you need to know what motivates them. Motivation helps answer a critical question: what directs someone’s actions and decisions over time?
When you understand an employee’s consistent motivations, you can anticipate behavior and become a more persuasive, supportive leader.
There are three primary types of motivation:
- Power Motivation – The desire to influence or lead others.
- Affiliation Motivation – The desire to connect and collaborate with people.
- Achievement Motivation – The drive to accomplish goals, win, and achieve measurable results.
Take a moment to reflect: What motivates you? Knowing this not only strengthens your leadership but also helps you guide your team more effectively toward PRETECT’s goals.
